2026 Overview

The landscape of end-of-life care in the UK is evolving rapidly. The progression of the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill through Parliament and insights from The Commission on Palliative and End-of-Life Care, are shaping patient choice, clinical guidance, and care standards. At the same time, persistent health care inequalities and systematic deficiencies continue to affect access to quality palliative care across different communities.

  • In 2023, 42.8% of deaths occurred in hospitals, with more than half of all deaths (57.2%) taking place in settings other than hospitals
  • The percentage of people dying at home rose to 28.4% in 2023 from 24.4% in 2019
  • In 2023, 41.3% of individuals who died in care homes were temporary residents, a slight increase from 36.6% in 2019

The Palliative and End-of-Life Care Conference 2026 united leading experts, policymakers, and clinicians shaping the future of care. Gain practical insights from case studies, exploring innovative approaches to community and hospice care, and learn strategies to provide compassionate, patient-centred support.
