Beau Stanford Francis is the Director of Public Realm in the London Borough of Newham. In 2021, the council won an Environmental Services Award at the Local Government Chronicle Awards for the Better Streets Programme which they produced in partnership with Keep Britain Tidy. The Better Streets Programme reduced fly-tipping across the borough of Newham, improving the environment for residents.
In this video, Beau discusses simple actions that the council made to change public perception and behaviour regarding fly-tipping to reduce the number of incidents across the borough. He shares the social and financial impacts of fly-tipping, and how these impacts were used to alter public perceptions, illustrating how fly-tipping can be reduced with simple cost-effective changes.
