The Digital Policing Conference 2024

The National Policing Digital Strategy published in 2020, lays out the core ambitions for policing over the current decade. Since the previous strategy, the authoring bodies recognise that policing has rapidly undergone a digital transformation of its legacy IT systems. However, the report argues that a lack of digital workforce competencies and data intelligence have broadly limited policing’s ability to maintain pace with demands. To make the most of digital opportunities to tackle crime and deliver more efficient policing, police leadership must continue to drive innovation, champion data-sharing, and upskill the workforce.

• It is estimated that more than 90% of reported crime has a digital element (The National Policing Strategy, 2020)
• The 2022 State of Policing report found that the police do not collect and analyse data well enough
• Last year the Home Office announced a £287 million funding boost to tackle crime including fraud and cyber-crime
