10.8 million tonnes of local authority waste was sent for recycling between 2021 and 2022, according to the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs.

Mickey Green is Managing Director for the Somerset Waste Partnership. Somerset Waste Partnership was the first county-wide partnership of waste collection and disposal authorities, they have a long history of innovation in the improvement of waste collection practices.

In this video, Mickey introduces the Somerset Waste Partnership and the impacts it has had on recycling in the county. He discusses the removal of district boundaries from collection routes to establish continuous data concerning waste collection flow across the districts. Concluding the presentation, he looks to the Recycle More scheme that has been implemented in recent years, helping drive resident behaviour changes regarding recycling and increasing recycling rates to more than 50%.
