Overview

The voluntary sector has drawn criticism in recent years due to a lack of representation and appreciation for diversity within their organisations. Recent reports from RACE and ACEVO have showcased inequal gaps in the representation of trustee boards and staff organisations, fostering a non-inclusive working environment. Fortunately, many charities are now taking steps to tackle these inequalities. Through sharing and engaging with best practice in EDI measures, organisations can increase the diversity of their workforce and create an inclusive environment for all employees.

  • Only 8% of charity trustees are people of colour, compared to 14% of the British population (Getting on Board, 2022)
  • 77% of BAME people in the charity sector have experienced or witnessed racism in the last 5 years (Home Truths 2/ACEVO, 2023)
  • Only 4% of the staff in the environmental charity sector in 2022 who received a promotion were from minority backgrounds (RACE, 2023)

Join us at The Inclusion and Diversity in the Voluntary Sector Conference 2024 to hear the latest policies and strategies from experts across the voluntary sector on improving diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
