One in six children between the ages of 6 and 16 in the UK have a probable mental health condition according to NHS Digital.

Charlotte Hanson is the Advanced Health Improvement Specialist for Children and Young People’s Emotional Health at Leeds City Council. She works with partners from the NHS, local authorities and the third sector to develop Future in Mind Leeds – the local strategy to improve the mental health of children and young people in Leeds. Marvina Newton is the Mental Health Ethnic Inequalities Lead (Children and Young People) at Forum Central.

In this video, Charlotte and Marvina discuss the importance of being aware of the challenges ethnic minorities face when accessing mental health services. They share how services can be better minority ethnicity allies for children and young people’s mental health, helping those who have been marginalised have better access to mental health services.
