According to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the UK generated 222.2 million tonnes of total waste in 2018, with England responsible for 84% of the UK total.

Andrew Jenkins is the Waste Promotions Lead Officer for Buckinghamshire Council. In this video, he presents innovative solutions to waste management and reduction, outlining existing initiatives such as Bucks Zero Waste Map and Grow to Give which engage local communities.

He identifies the ways in which other local councils across the UK can adopt similar approaches, asserting that waste has moved past collections and it is time for local authorities to be the champions and guides to waste prevention.
