Women make up only 24% of the STEM workforce, demonstrating a clear gender gap in STEM fields. In a recent report published by STEM Women, over half of 557 STEM students and recent graduates who identify as women or non-binary said they had experienced imposter syndrome, often feeling like ‘the odd one out.’

Amanda Solloway MP is the Former Minister for Science, Research and Innovation in the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. A member of the Conservative Party, she has served as MP for Derby North since 2019 and a Lord Commissioner of the Treasury since September 2022.

In this video, Solloway discusses the importance of providing young women with confidence and opportunity throughout their educational journeys and careers, lobbying for the engagement of more women in STEM. Outlining the People and Culture Strategy to enable diversity, she explores how barriers for women in STEM can be overcome as well as the main challenges she has faced in encouraging more diversity in this field.
