Developing a Green Infrastructure Framework to Improve Resident Access to Nature

In November 2020, the Government published the Charter for Social Housing Residents, establishing new standards for social housing. Access to green spaces is one of the requirements outlined in the paper for a good quality neighbourhood.

Dr Phil Askew is Director of Landscape and Placemaking at Peabody, where he oversees Thamesmead, one of London’s largest regeneration and development projects. The Living in the Landscape initiative takes a green infrastructure and landscaping-led approach to placemaking.

In this video, Dr Askew shares how green spaces are being improved in Thamesmead as part of the Living in the Landscape framework. He highlights the importance of green spaces for community wellbeing and suggests ways to regenerate existing green and blue assets within developments.
