In 2021, 4,859 deaths related to drug poisoning were registered in 2021 in England and Wales, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Rachael Millar is Deputy Director of the Joint Combatting Drugs Unit in the Home Office. The Joint Combatting Drugs Unit was created in July 2021 to oversee the 10-year drugs strategy and work across all drugs strategy departments in government.
