Between 2020 and 2021 just over 2 million pupils were eligible for pupil premium, according to the Department for Education.

Marc Rowland is the Pupil Premium Adviser for the Unity Schools Partnership. He works with the Education Endowment Foundation’s National Research School Network. He is also working on a range of programmes focussed on educational disadvantage nationally. 

In this video, Rowland discusses working with schools to close the pupil attainment gap and foster a better sense of belonging for disadvantaged children. He highlights the importance of understanding pupils’ needs, and listening to any feedback from them and parents to ensure the teachers are providing the support students need.
