1 in 7 LGBTQ+ people avoid seeking healthcare for fear of discrimination from staff, according to Stonewall.

Dr Vanessa Apea is a Consultant Physician in Sexual Health for Barts Health NHS Trust. She has extensive experience promoting health equity in marginalised populations, collaboratively working with community stakeholders to advocate for minoritised communities in healthcare.

In this video, Dr Apea shares evidence of inequalities in healthcare and the negative impacts this heteronormative behaviour has had on the LGBTQ+ community. She highlights the multilevel barriers individuals face, using these to provide examples of organisations that have created more inclusive spaces to provide the LGBTQ+ community with better access to healthcare.
